Superior Donuts, a 2008 play by award-winning playwright Tracy Letts, is returning to Chicago in a new production by Angel Island Theater. The production will begin on Tuesday, February 14 and run to Sunday, March 25, 2012.
Uptown is the setting for the action in Superior Donuts. The play features several colorful fictional characters from the neighborhood, with the primary focus on the two main characters: Arthur, the donut shop owner, and Franco, a young African-American employee.
Letts is an ensemble member at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theater, where the initial run of Superior Donuts was produced in 2008. His 2007 play August: Osage County won that year’s Tony Award for Best Play, as well as the Pulitzer Prize.
Angel Island Theater is at 731 W. Sheridan Rd. in Lakeview. For more details, check out the Theater in Chicago Web page.
