A social services institution with 122 years of history in Chicago is closing this week. Jane Addams Hull House Association will close on Friday, according to an article in the Chicago Tribune.
The Association’s service sites included the Uptown Center at 4520 N. Beacon St., as well as numerous housing and child care sites around the city.
Hull House’s Uptown Center Web page indicates that the Center offered after-school programs, domestic violence counseling, and ESL classes, along with preschool classes and a small business development center.
Its closure may have an impact on other Uptown social service providers, who will be challenged to meet the additional demand from former Hull House clients.
