Musical chairs: Uptown theatres

By Patrick Erwin, editor in chief

Uptown Update is reporting on new homes for two of Uptown’s theatre companies: Profiles Theatre and National Pastime Theatre.

National Pastime is moving to a space in the Preston Bradley Center, while Profiles Theatre, currently at 4147 N. Broadway St., is expanding into National Pastime’s old space next door at 4139 N. Broadway St.

But another Uptown theatre group is still without a home. Pegasus Players called Truman College its home until 2010. According to a Chicago Tribune article,  financial challenges and issues with Truman’s new garage construction put them on hiatus.

Pegasus was slated to move into the Uptown Hull House performance space that Black Ensemble Theater formerly occupied. Theatre critic Hedy Weiss from the Chicago Sun-Times wrote an article earlier this month that indicated Pegasus had moved and was hosting a new playwright festival in that space.

However, with last week’s sudden closure of all Hull House programs and spaces across the city, Pegasus’ future remains unclear. (The troupe’s Web page has not been updated recently.)
