New training programs focuses on veterans

By Patrick Erwin, editor-in-chief

City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) announced another partnership on April 14. This partnership is with Peoples Gas and the Utility Workers of America (UWUA) union, and has a specific focus: job opportunities for recent U.S. veterans.

Veterans who sign up for the program will have an intensive six-month training program  with classes at Wright College and Dawson Technical Institute. They’ll also have a month-long internship with Peoples Gas.

After the program is completed, coursework from the program will count towards an associate degree, and participants are eligible to continue working towards their CCC degree.

Truman has several resources for veterans, including a financial aid support team in the McKeon Building. Veterans can also take advantage of other student support programs. And Truman also has a veterans’ writing workshop.

The first class began orientation last week.
