CPS Teachers Will Strike, Children First Program and Save Haven Sites to Move Forward as Planned

BREAKING: Live tonight on WGN-TV, Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis announced that Chicago Public School teachers will go on strike Monday morning.

“We failed to reach an agreement that will prevent a labor strike, ” said Lewis.  “…Job security is stability for our students,” she said.

In response to the Chicago Teachers Union strike, 46th Ward Alderman James Cappleman shared in a newsletter tonight the following information for Uptown parents and residents affected by the strike:

Neighborhood Elementary Schools Open: 

  • Walt Disney Magnet Elementary School
  • Stockton Elementary

Neighborhood High Schools Open:

  • Amundsen High School
  • Albert G Lane Technical High School

Day Camp:

  • Chase Park, located at 4702 N. Ashland Ave., will host an all day camp from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Registration is free and opens at 6 a.m.

The 48th Ward office also announced tonight in a newsletter that Alderman Harry Osterman’s staff and volunteers will meet at the Ward’s office at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, and they will also visit neighborhood schools.

The 48th Ward shared their Contingency Plan, which includes instructions for Ward residents affected by the strike.
