Students participated yesterday in the annual Know Your Roots game show at the Student Activities Center to win Truman-themed prizes and learn about important events in black history.

Fifty multiple choice questions were asked covering everything from the first African American to win a Nobel Peace Prize to the first invention by an African American that was granted a patent. (Answers are “Ralph Bunche” and “the folding bed,” for those wondering).

Prizes that included water bottles, T-shirts and key chains were given to the winning team. Event Director Barry Green said that real prize is the information: “It’s not a game of who wins, (but) it’s a game of someone learning something.”

Winning participant Erin Israel said, “It was an essential event to raise awareness for the cultural achievements in the black community, (and) it was also a lot of fun.”
